1.0 - Welcome and Course Overview
Welcome to FOUNDATIONS!
So you've begun your journey of walking with Jesus! This course is a brief journey through the basics of what it means to be a follower of Jesus.
In 2 Peter 1:5-8, the apostle Peter gives us some great encouragement which finds itself the Key Verse throughout the class.
5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I know it is popular to believe all we need is faith and no more, and that may be true to find ourselves counted among the children of God, but Peter throws down the gauntlet in his second letter instructing us that we must add to our faith if we wish to be effective and fruitful followers of Jesus.
Over the next 10 weeks, we will focus on the second item in Peter's list: Knowledge. But this isn't merely an academic knowledge composed of facts, figures, and mindless bits of data. We intend to spur one another on to increasing our faith in God by adding more and more knowledge of Him, His Character, and His Nature.
Please note, you will get out of the course what you put into it. Do the homework. Read the passages. Watch the videos, and above all: PRAY. Ask God to reveal Himself to you as you strive to become a true apprentice or disciple of Jesus.
Now, let's talk turkey! Move on to Lesson 1.1 - What to Expect to discuss what the course will look like, practically speaking.
